Simone Arianne Biles, /sI'moUn/baI@lzwas born on March 14, 1997. Biles is tied with Shannon Miller for the number of Olympic medals won in American gymnastics and is currently the ninth highest. With 25 World Championship medals won, Biles is the most decorated gymnast in the history of the Gymnastics World Championships. Many consider her to be the best gymnast of all-time. Joe Biden presented Biles with the Presidential Medal of Freedom 2022. Biles was awarded gold medals during the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Summer Olympics. She also won bronze in balance beam as well as floor, all-around, and vault. Biles was part of the United States team known as the "Final Five". However, Biles pulled out of most of the contest because of struggles with "the twisties" which refers to a temporary loss in balance awareness in the air.
