Simone Biles

Simone Arianne Biles, /sI'moUn/baI@lzwas born on March 14, 1997. Biles is tied with Shannon Miller for the number of Olympic medals won in American gymnastics and is currently the ninth highest. With 25 World Championship medals won, Biles is the most decorated gymnast in the history of the Gymnastics World Championships. Many consider her to be the best gymnast of all-time. Joe Biden presented Biles with the Presidential Medal of Freedom 2022. Biles was awarded gold medals during the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Summer Olympics. She also won bronze in balance beam as well as floor, all-around, and vault. Biles was part of the United States team known as the "Final Five". However, Biles pulled out of most of the contest because of struggles with "the twisties" which refers to a temporary loss in balance awareness in the air. With the US team, she took home a medal on balance beam as well as a silver. The team was highly praised for the partial withdrawal she made, her persistence and dedication to safety, mental, and mental health. Biles is the World's most accomplished gymnast (25) and the World's most gold-medalled (19). Biles has now passed Vitaly Scherbo, who holds the record for the most World medals. Biles won both 24th and 25th gold medals in the 2019 Stuttgart competition. She holds the record for having the highest number of all-around World titles (5). She is the sixth person to win an individual all-around title both at the World Championships and the Olympics and is the first gymnast since Lilia Podkopayeva in the year 1996 to have both titles at the same time. Biles is the 10th American female gymnast and the first American female gymnast, to win the World medal for every event, and she was the first female gymnast, since Daniela Silivas (1988), to earn an Olympic medal in every Olympic Games or World Championships. Biles was born on the 14th of March 1997, in Columbus, Ohio, the third of four siblings.Her birth mother, Shanon Biles, was not able to take care of Simone or her siblings - Adria, Ashley, and Tevin. All four were placed in foster care and out. Biles' maternal grandfather Ron Biles and Nellie Cayetano Biles became aware that Shanon was placed in foster care. They started caring for Shanon's kids temporarily in Spring, Texas in 2000. In 2003, Simone and Adria were adopted by the couple. Ron's sister Shanon as well as Shanon's aunt Harriet, adopted their two most eldest children. Biles is a Belizean citizen through her adoptive mom and believes that Belize her second home.
